In the Beginning

New Letters on the Air explores the spark that ignites writers’ imaginations. Pulitzer Prize winners Tony Kushner (shown), Jane Smiley, Richard Russo and the late August Wilson share images and ideas that prompted some of their greatest works, while National Book Award winner Sherman Alexie and a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets, Naomi Shihab Nye, both tell humorous stories about what drives them to write.
